German Tax Advisor on secondment in Stockholm

Hi, Marie-Christin, you are doing a secondment with Svalner. Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Marie-Christin: My name is Marie-Christin Hackner and I’ve been working for WTS Germany in Munich since August 2020. I studied Business Economics at HAW Landshut and started working as a Tax Assistant at WTS Munich at the department for Real Estate Services in 2016, transferred to Kanzlei Kastl in Ingolstadt in and came back to WTS in 2020 to join the VAT department. In March 2020 I passed the tax advisor exam and I’ve been working as a certified tax advisor since then. I am a part of the VAT Team and I’m specialized on Real Estate Topics (due diligence services, input VAT adjustments, documentations on capital good schemes, VAT clauses: purchase contracts / lease contracts, client training, tax audit support). Besides that, I’m also into VAT compliance services (preparation and review of monthly / quarterly preliminary VAT returns and annual VAT returns) and we also advise on ongoing VAT questions (e.g. supply chain analysis and optimization, registration obligations) – – also for non-real estate clients from the machinery, telecommunication and retail sector.

Svalner: Why did you want to do a secondment and why did you choose Svalner?

Marie-Chrstin: I wanted to do a secondment to broaden my experience abroad in a professional environment and I also wanted to get to know new ways of working and to get insights in work processes in a law firm abroad.

I chose Svalner for a secondment because my firm did various VAT projects with Svalner colleagues in the past and always received excellent support from them. Due to the pleasant cooperation in the past we wanted to deepen the relationship and thought that a secondment would be a good opportunity to do this.

Svalner: You have been living in Stockholm for a month now, what is your impression of the city?

Marie-Christin: I experienced Stockholm as a beautiful and vibrant city – especially now, that the winter months are over and that the city seems to be coming back to life with all the parks and gardens starting to bloom. With it’s many museums and galleries Stockholm has a rich cultural scene, which I really enjoy. Besides the cultural aspects I really enjoy spending my free time with outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and rock climbing, which can all be done in a perfect manner just around Stockholm.
